SoFi Stadium Workers Threaten Strike Days Before World Cup Kickoff

A major operational crisis looms over the 2026 FIFA World Cup as approximately 2,000 concession and hospitality workers at SoFi Stadium have voted overwhelmingly to authorize a strike. Represented by the Unite Here Local 11 union, 96% of the stadium's cooks, dishwashers, and servers backed the walkout following months of deadlocked contract negotiations.

The labor dispute centers on demands for higher wages and improved healthcare benefits to match Southern California’s soaring cost of living. Emergency negotiations are scheduled for June 8, as both sides rush to secure a deal and avert an unprecedented logistical shutdown.

If talks fail, a strike could begin immediately, potentially paralyzing stadium operations just days before the venue hosts its first tournament match on June 12, featuring the United States Men's National Team. As one of the crown jewels of the tournament, SoFi Stadium is slated to host eight crucial matches.
