Singapore Holds Indonesia to 1-1 Draw to Secure ASEAN Cup Semifinal Berth

Singapore’s national football team successfully advanced to the 2026 ASEAN Cup semifinals after a dramatic 1-1 draw against a star-studded Indonesia at the Jalan Besar Stadium on Friday night. The result secured the Lions second place in Group A with eight points, while knocking tournament favorites Indonesia out of the competition.
After a scoreless first half, Indonesia broke the deadlock in the 47th minute when Ragnar Oratmangoen found the back of the net after a precise assist from Doni Tri Pamungkas, sparking hope for the Garuda squad.
The match reached a boiling point in the 62nd minute when Singapore's Song Ui-young was initially shown a second yellow card. However, a lengthy VAR review overturned the decision, allowing the hosts to keep eleven men on the pitch. Singapore capitalized on the momentum just four minutes later. Exploiting a costly miscommunication in the Indonesian defense, striker Ilhan Fandi pounced on a loose ball to score the equalizer in the 66th minute.
Despite relentless attacking pressure from Indonesia in the closing stages, Singapore held firm to preserve the draw and guarantee their spot in the final four alongside group winners Vietnam.
