United Edge Leeds On Penalties After 1-1 Draw In Dublin

Manchester United captured the BoyleSports Cup on Wednesday evening, defeating rivals Leeds United 5-4 on penalties following a fierce 1-1 draw in front of a packed crowd at Croke Park.
The preseason clash sparked into life after just 16 minutes when United’s summer signing Bryan Mbeumo drove down the left flank. He delivered a low, pinpoint cross for Joshua Zirkzee, who tapped home from close range to give Erik ten Hag’s side the lead. However, Leeds responded dynamically and found their equalizer in the 29th minute. Former Red Devil Dan James danced through the penalty area before feeding Brenden Aaronson, who calmly slotted a side-footed finish into the bottom corner.
Both managers heavily rotated their squads in the second half, leading to a frantic finish. United came closest to a winner when Bruno Fernandes struck the crossbar. With the scores level after 90 minutes, the match moved straight to a shootout. Leeds defender James Justin missed his sudden-death spot-kick, allowing Noussair Mazraoui to step up and coolly smash home the winning penalty to seal the trophy for Manchester United.
